NikeFIVE vs. DHL BARBARIANS (L) 10-5

Monday night proved to be a battle that would stay with Team NikeFIVE for very long. With kick-off approaching, Team NikeFIVE only had 5 players to take the footy pitch and had an uphill battle to fight against the boys from DHL Barbarians fielding 10 very eager players. Cornel managed to make the game just in time and as the whistle blew, the DHL boys already started to set the pace. NikeFIVE knew from the start that the key to our success was to slow the game down as much as possible in order for us to save our lungs, while DHL was of the opinion to make full use of their squad and substitutions.

At half time, the score was a mere 3-2 and the boys in blue were still managing to hold on to the game due to great commitment and defence. Unfortunately Cornel suffered a foot injury early in the second half, and Team NikeFIVE were back with only 5 players and no subs. The tired bodies and minds started to show in the last 10 minutes of the game, and we gave away 4 quick intercept tries that turned the game around.

The end score was 10-5 to the DHL Barbarians, but a special hats-off must go to James Pieters, Guy Lipschitz, Jaco Louw, Jaco du Toit, Pieter Keevy and Cornel de Jongh for there incredible efforts troughout the match.

Unfortunately Team NikeFIVE has not made the semi-finals this season and its very dissapointing since the team has improved tremendously over the past 4 seasons. We have 2 more games left against the top of the log Warrior Legends and Cracker Allstars in the weeks to come, which we hope will see some upsets and will def be interesting to watch!

Oechacha...
NikeFIVE!!!!!!!
