NikeFIVE vs DHL Barbarians 7 Feb 2011 (2-7 L)

Last night Team NikeFIVE took on nemesis DHL Barbarians in an encounter that was always going to be a nail biter! Bendery Mostert was a marked man after his transfer from DHL to the ranks of NikeFIVE and from the outset of the game, he showed that he made the right move!

The first half was a close affair with the score dangling at 3-2 after Gerhard "twinkle toe" Visser crossed the whitewash twice to open his account for the season in a NikeFIVE jersey. It was in all a great team effort that made the score as close as it was. Cornel was very unlucky not to score himself, apparently the ball was a bit wet...

The second half was blurred by confusing and utter reckless refereeing by "Chris". After multiple penalties conceded by NikeFIVE from the quick tap (without explanation from the ref??), Jannie "gladder as 'n vis" Visser claimed the first yellow card for ANY NikeFIVE player. Team NikeFIVE managed to hold on with only four players on the field, but without nerve, a couple of tries creeped through the cracks.

The final score was 7-2 to the DHL Barbarians.

Despite the end result, it proved to be a memorable match. Emile Spamer from DHL never scored an intercept try. Jak Erasmus claimed the first OMO-Award for tripping over the try line and Maritz Theron is more confused than ever about the rules of touchies, after the brilliant performance from the ref. Even Jaco Louw managed to utter a couple of "telekeneses Kyle" verbal abuses at the ref....

All in all, not a bad performance for a team that hasn't had a single coaching session this year!!

Oechacha!!!
NikeFIVE!!!!!!!!
